What You Need to Do When Sewage Water Backs Up In Your Yard
Sometimes it can happen so unexpectedly no matter how well we maintain our yards, everyone can be susceptible to sewage problems. This is definitely one kind of water damage you do not ever want to have. It is one of the nastiest, smelliest, most unhealthy messes that you will ever have the unpleasantness to deal with.
Sewage can emerge in the cleanest of yards if there is a sudden sewer pipe to burst or come apart at a juncture from sewage back up, from a tree root, or from the corrosion of an old pipe. If you have a large yard you might not notice it visually right away, but it probably will not take long for you to smell the problem.
Unfortunately, unless you try to take care of it yourself, sewage repair can become fairly expensive, especially if you’re dealing with issues with your septic tank. Talk to your homeowner’s insurance company; they will most likely send someone out to give you some advice on what you need to do. Hiring someone to fix the problem is the best solution if you can afford to do so, but until you get a chance to, keep your kids and pets away from the area. Keep in mind that sewage by nature is contaminated and can cause health problems if you allow yourself to be exposed to too much of it.
While you may want to try and work on the job yourself, hiring someone to do it is the smartest move by far if it’s something you can afford. Try to get references from any contractor you consider getting to do the job, depending on whether the problem is a very serious one yet or not. Get an estimate on how much it’s going to cost to fix the problem and get it cleaned up. When working with a contractor, though, try to pay half of the amount before work begins and half after the work is done.
You want to make sure and get the waste cleaned up as soon as possible after the leak is repaired. Waste can cause all manner of illness if it’s allowed to stay. Keep in mind that your city sewage system could be the problem and if you suspect this is the case, talk to your contractor. The city might have to pay your contractor for his trouble.
Using a septic line cleaner that can be flushed down your toilet is a good prevention for build up in your sewer lines, especially in older lines. These cleaning products are inexpensive and easy to use. They can be helpful to keep your sewer pipes clean, as clean as a sewer pipe can be anyway.
