Ringworm is the infection of microscopic organisms on an under the skin. They form a complete circle with a clean healthy inner circle and the fungi are around in a ring ever expanding towards the outside. Ringworm treatment is most effective when the infection is detected early and the fungus is not yet fully established.

When the infection advances, it can be as a growing circle or it can form other circles in different areas of the body. Once infected the area of the body where you can see the rings should be kept clean and absolutely dry. Fungus dwells in humid dark places and grows faster. When applying medication it is necessary to do it with clean hands and a couple of centimeters outside the ring. This will stop the advancing fungus.

Severe, unattended cases will develop secondary infections of other fungi and or bacteria. This will require additional and stronger, prescription medication to fight it off. It will take longer to go away too. Some scaring may be left behind if you scratch the itch, it is better to apply calamine lotions on the itch gently with a piece of cotton.

Early detection of ringworm is very important to avoid complications. If you get any strange itches, especially at night, check the area and look for evidence of ringworm. Visit your doctor to get a diagnose, if it is confirmed check all your family in search of evidence. It is also important to take your family pet to the veterinarian to have him bathed and cleaned too.
