Finding an effective way to kill bed bugs can be tricky at best and nearly impossible at worst. These tiny parasites burrow into bed linens and usually come out at night to feast on the blood of human hosts. If you have them in your home, you need to get rid of them as soon as possible.

These bugs can be seen with the naked eye. They are shaped like ovals and flattened, which makes it easy for them to work their way into crevices and cracks. Dark fecal spots and blood left on bed linens are signs that you have an infestation and it is time to take action.

It will be necessary to completely clean the infested area and everything in it. You can start by washing the clothes, throw rugs, and bedding in hot water that is at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. You should also set the dryer on high heat.

Meanwhile, vacuum all sides of the mattress and seal it in plastic wrap. Lay mattress out in the sun for as long as you can. Rent a steam cleaner and use it on the curtains and carpet. The perimeter of the rug needs to be vacuumed as well as the edges of every piece of furniture in the room. Dislodge any eggs by scrubbing any hard surfaces with a stiff brush.

You will want to find an insecticide that is designed specifically for this pest. Read all included directions and spray the baseboards around the perimeter of the infested room. The pesticide should not be sprayed on the mattress or anywhere else that is likely to come in contact with human skin.

Use a pesticide that has been specifically developed to deal with this pest. Carefully read the instructions and spray it around the edges of the room especially in the crease between the baseboard and the carpet. Do not let the spray get on anything that has a chance of making contact with the skin.

Inspect all the baseboards and moldings in the room for any cracks. Caulk any imperfections you may find as well as any areas where wires or pipes are coming through the walls.

In some cases, you may do all of these things and discover that the pesky little bugs just will not go away. If so, you will need to contact a professional for help. A qualified exterminator will have the expertise to use stronger pesticides that will likely do the trick. If the infestation is severe, more than one treatment may be needed.

When you are troubled by an invasion of this tiny organism, you want to find a remedy that will not only prevent bed bugs but will kill bed bugs. At the same time, the treatment cannot be harmful to humans or pets.
