Drill and fill aerification will help the state of your golf course or playing field. All turf needs deep healthy roots. This will not be possible if the soil is constantly getting compacted. This will not give the roots the air chambers they need to get the oxygen required.

Any ball field or golf course is subject to a lot of use. Not only by people but also the large heavy mowers that are in constant use. When this is the case the soil will compact and lose any air chambers that the grass was using to get oxygen.

For any amount of acreage to be done you will need machinery. The method needs to go deep enough into the soil to give the roots of the turf the oxygen they need to grow. If the correct depth is not achieved the roots will not get the air they need.

What seems to work best for aeration of the soil is a straight in and out process done by a drill. This will leave smooth holes in the turf with only a small amount pulled up when the holes were created. The other benefit of this approach is that it keeps the soil residue to a minimum.

Within days after using this method the turf will look like nothing was even done. This is something that gold courses are concerned about. They do not want to shut down to do any maintenance but having poor turf is an important thing to consider for golfers.

Another consideration is the distance the hole will go down. This will be decided when a professional comes to look at the soil. They will make the determination based on the amount of clay or sand and the last time any type of maintenance was performed.

The other thing to think about is the time of year to aerate. Normally it is done when the turf is still growing. The roots can continue to grow at a faster rate because the dirt around them will be loose. This will be done at different times of the year based on the climate.

The benefits after drilling and aerating the turf include deeper roots less moss, less disease and better overall greens condition. Most services will be able to do over 2 acres a day. drill and fill aerification will help your playing field and in the case of a golf course will bring you more business.
