Decorating Your Dorm

Time spent at college or university is always an interesting experience and your dorm room will no doubt be your home away from home so it is a good idea to throw in some decorating touches that will make it feel like home. It needs to be a place where you can study (if your roommate will allow you to) and a space where you can get away from the stresses of college life when you need to.

You are probably on a tight budget so you want to make your choices carefully. You will want to shop around at your local thrift stores to create a look that is right for you. If you are moving a long way away from home you may want to do all your shopping at the local stores and thrift stores and this will save you a ton of money on shipping. Some department stores even offer dorm furnishing so this will be perfect for you but be careful not to pay too much.

You probably have a roommate at your dorm room so you have to take in considerations their likes and dislikes when decorating. Sit down with them and find out what style they like the most and then you can go shopping with that in mind. You don’t have to stop shopping for your own likes and dislikes just be more considerate of their taste too. You will get along better if you work their taste into your style.

Bedding is a personal choice. This is a great way to express yourself without worrying about what others will like or dislike. Most dorm beds will double as a sofa or a study area. It’s the biggest piece in the room and it can be used for anything. You need a comforter that won’t show too much dirt too quickly. This will save you a lot of money at the Laundromat.

To tie the look together you will need area rugs to finish out the look. Place an area rug in the kitchen, living room, bath room, at the bed, and at the door. An are rug can say a lot about the style of the room. It can also make your roommates look blend with yours. Shop for an area rug together so you both can agree on the final purchase.
